The performance characteristics of engine are the most important input data in simulating vehicle dynamics. Building the performance of new generation diesel engines (using Common Rail fuel injection system with a variable geometry turbocharger and exhaust gas recirculation,…) is more difficult and complex than traditional diesel engines. This paper presents results building the Mean Value Engine Model (MVEM) of new generation diesel engine in Matlab/Simulink with input data defined by measuring on testing stand and using weighted least-squares optimization. This MVEM is used in model simulating accleration performance of Hyundai Starex Vehicle.
